About me
Hello, there! My name is Arya Karki, and I’m a 14-year-old aspiring artist, baker, and writer (among other things), with a passion for all things creative.
Considering I made this website, you’ve probably already guessed that I love to cook and bake. But I’m sure you clicked on the “About” page to learn more than that, so let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I was born in Indiana, but my family moved to Michigan in 2014 and that’s where I’ve lived ever since. I have one younger brother, and I’m the proud owner of a beautiful, goofy standard poodle named Ginger.
My family loves to travel, which has certainly sparked an interest in foods from all over the world. As of now, I’ve been to 9 countries, but there are still so many places I want to see!
I like to spend my days drawing, reading, writing, animating, crocheting, cooking, and baking. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you’re interested in seeing my artwork, I’d highly recommend checking out my art blog, http://www.aryakarki.com.
On the other hand, if it’s food that you want to see, you’ve come to the right place! Why don’t I tell you the story of how this all began?
How I started baking
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved food. I mean, who doesn’t? Making it, on the other hand, was something that started a little more recently.
I was 8 years old when I baked my first pie. Being the little bookworm that I was (and still am), I had just read a book about a lady who loved to bake pie, and decided I was was going to try it for myself. And so began my journey as a baker.
Some of our family friends were hosting a party, at which they would hold a pie contest. Little me saw this as the perfect opportunity. You can imagine my pride as I took that apple pie out of the oven–the first thing I’d ever baked all by myself! I was even happier when my pie won third place in the contest.
Ever since then, I’ve loved to bake pies for my friends and family (and I’m pretty sure that they’ve enjoyed this hobby of mine, as well). However, it wasn’t until about a year ago that I started to try new things. Muffins, cheesecakes, croissants…I’ve even started to make my own recipes! In fact, that’s the exact reason I started this blog: so I can share them with you!
Room for Brownies
Before I write any more about this blog, I feel like I should probably tell you where the name came from. You see, we have a running joke in my family that stems from this video of 3-year-old me:
I’ll let that speak for itself.
When I decided to make a food blog, that was the first thing that came to mind. I just had to use it.
Anyway, if you’re here because you enjoy baking and/or cooking, then we already have something in common! In addition to sharing my own original recipes, this blog is also the place where I try out other people’s recipes and let you know how they turn out.
